Every great magic trick consists of three acts. The first act is called "The Pledge"; The magician shows you something ordinary, but of course... it probably isn't. The second act is called "The Turn"; The magician makes his ordinary some thing do something extraordinary. Now if you're looking for the secret... you won't find it, that's why there's a third act called, "The Prestige"; this is the part with the twists and turns, where lives hang in the balance, and you see something shocking you've never seen before.

This is the opening line of the movie, "The Prestige", with 3 wonderful actors and a fantastic director. Now I hate ruining endings or giving away major plot points, so I just want to say five short things about this movie:

-Christian Bale is fantastic.

-Hugh Jackman is pretty good.

-I love watching tricks.

-You'll still be thinking about it at least an hour afterwards. If not the next day!

-I hate being disapointed by directors with potential.

Oh and one final comment: One thing I love about movies set in a past era is when they really make you believe they are being true to the era. A couple of recent movies that have done this are: Shakespeare in Love & Pride & Prejudice (the latest version). I really love when directors ( and I guess the entire crew) go above and beyond to show you what life really was like in the era they are portraying. They leave in the real things, the dirty things, the unpretty things and I really, really appreciate that. So go see this movie and tell me what you think. Not recommended for children.

**** of five cause it's as good as the first time.

I have not been to see a movie in a shamefully long time. And all the movies I have rented have been crap. But last night when we rented this movie I thought, "Oh, this is definately a movie worth blogging about. So a short plot outline: Joe(JG) is living with his finances eccentric partents (SS & DH) when she is killed and he now has to figure out what to do with his life, without her. It's a great story. If any of you have seen JG's other movies such as Donnie Darko, you'll know he is a fantastic actor. You pair him up with the other two and how could you have a bad movie? SS's character is so frank and truthful while grieving it's refreshing and DH's is so lovable, it's impossible not to shed at least one tear. I love movies that put an original spin on something that's been done a hundred times and keep it interesting and thought provoking. It's a movie about a 'family' grieving, but with more humour than any other movie I've seen about grieving. It also stresses truth telling, even if it is in a harsh way, which I seem to be all about as I get older. So if you have yet to see this movie, go and rent it sometime, it's a great drama that will leave you happy but not in that cliched hollywood way we all get so sick of. Well at least I do.
